About Middle College

Who We Are

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide, in collaboration with Contra Costa College (CCC), a nurturing and academically challenging environment for traditionally underserved students to reach their full potential in a non-traditional high school setting. Our goal is to allocate personnel and fiscal resources to ensure equitable outcomes for all students. Our design gives students a special opportunity to gain a range of skills that will provide motivation, and support for their lifelong personal, academic, and social growth.

THE SCHOOL & THE COMMUNITY

Middle College High School (MCHS) is a highly rigorous early college program that serves a diverse
population of 300 students. MCHS was establish in 1989 in collaboration with the West Contra Costa
Unified School District and Contra Costa College. Our program was designed for students who need a
more challenging curriculum and are at risk of not meeting their full academic potential at a traditional high school. This program provides students with the opportunity to graduate with not only a high school diploma, but also the ability to work towards completion of an AA degree or transferrable college credits. MCHS is located in the city of San Pablo, CA and borders Richmond, CA, in which 58% of the students we serve come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Additionally, we are proud to be a 2017 California Gold Ribbon Recipient and a 2019 & 2021 California Distinguished School.
